M42 (The Orion Nebula or NGC 1976) Located in the “sword” of the constellation of Orion is considered a diffuse nebula, meaning there are not definite boundaries. It is also one of the brightest nebulae in the sky and can be observed with the naked eye. The nebula is an example of a stellar nursery, an area where young stars are being formed from left over gases. Approximately 700 stars are thought to be in various stages of stellar evolution within in the nebula.
